Quite Sane – The Story
Widely recognized as one of the most groundbreaking experimental bands to come out of late nineties London,
Quite Sane’s unmistakable blend of hip-hop, jazz and political commentary, as presented on their 2002 critically acclaimed debut, The Child of Troubled Times, resonates as fresh and relevant to this day.
Despite all the enthusiasm around this debut release, trying to keep a band together spread across two continents proved to be quite a challenge for leader, Anthony Tidd. Thus, way too many requests by devoted fans around the globe
and two decades later, Anthony finally decided to reform the octet and record a follow up album.
It’s important for Anthony to have a working band this time around,
so the new line up features all American musicians – three original members (Anthony Tidd, Miguel Zenon and Sean Rickman) plus some very exciting new additions (Melissa Aldana, Kokayi, Laurin Talese, Lee Mo, Queen Jo, Paul Cornish and Miles Okazaki).
Their first show (in 2022 at the Jazz Gallery NYC) presented songs from their upcoming record as part of a Chamber Music America Premier, which Anthony was awarded a grant for in 2021.
He describes their latest album (due for release June 2025), as the long awaited sequel, “To Kill a Child of Troubled Times“ a subject, which in light of Freddie Gray, Breonna Taylor and George Floyd, is just as relevant today as it ever was”.
